If you’re one of the thousands of students receiving exam results over the next few days, chances are you’re probably feeling a bit nervous right now. Whether you’re feeling confident about your results or nervous about the future, know that you’re not alone. Here are our top tips for getting through results day.
Start the day right
You can’t make decisions about your future when you’re full of the jitters. Nerves are high on a big day like this, so take some time to relax and centre yourself with a short breathing exercise, head out for a calming walk and make sure you have a good breakfast to set you up for a big day of celebrations!
Kick the comparison habit
Remember: comparison is the thief of joy. You’ve worked really hard to achieve your goals and begin creating your future, so as long as your results are in line with your goals and values, it doesn’t matter how well someone else did in the same subject. If you’re going to compare your results to anyone, compare it with yourself- think back to the start of your studies, and look at how much you’ve grown!
Pat yourself on the back
Whatever happens, you made it- and through a pandemic, no less! The past year has been stressful anyway with the pressure of exams looming, and that was before lockdown rules prevented us from actually getting to the exam hall. You’ve worked really hard to get to today, so make sure you take time to actually celebrate what you’ve achieved. We’re proud of you!
If your results aren’t what you expected, it can feel like you need to jump straight into calling clearing lines and making decisions before you’ve had a chance to breathe. Take a moment to sit with your results and how you feel about them, good or bad, and think about what you value and the future you want. Then you can start to make a plan.
